State board votes against Mercy Hospital closure

A state board voted unanimously Tuesday against an application to close Mercy Hospital & Medical Center in Bronzeville, following months of outcry from the community.

The 6-0 vote by the state Health Facilities and Services Review Board means that Mercy now has 14 days to notify the board if it wants to reappear before the board for another vote, or 14 days to submit additional information about why it should be allowed to close, said Courtney Avery, board executive director.
