Ranked choice voting

We did it! RCV passed in Oak Park! That makes Oak Park the second city in Illinois to adopt ranked choice voting for their municipal elections. The binding referendum passed with 79%! This win comes after 2+ years of speaking to Oak Park residents about RCV, petitioning to get the referendum on the ballot earlier this year, and making sure voters were well informed in a high-turnout presidential election.

THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this happen, whether it was by talking to your friends in Oak Park, donating, making calls, writing LTEs, getting signatures, or the dozens of other ways you came together to help Oak Park get better elections and ultimately advance the RCV movement in Illinois.

And Oak Park wasn’t the only news–we also got a win in Peoria! Peoria Township had an advisory referendum where voters got to say if they would like RCV statewide. The voters passed the referendum with 67%! This sends a strong message to our legislators in Springfield that we want RCV in Illinois.

For all the details on our wins in Illinois and across the country, the state of the RCV movement, and our next steps, join us at our next statewide meeting on Wednesday, November 13 at 7PM.
